What is the correct way to move your hand along the page when writing?

I move my hand continuously along the page whilst writing. Someone else I know, who has a problem with writing fast, is writing a word with his hand in one position on the paper, then giving his hand a little jerk to the right, then writing another word, and so on. We are both right-handed, but my writing is both neater and quicker than his. If there is a standard way of moving the hand along the paper, can anyone confirm which one is the standard?
